Hunting Easter Eggs on Dog River. Easter Decor compliments of the Mobile Pigs and ADEM.

The City of Mobile announced it plans to clamp down on derelict buildings.
They want to get rid of the eye-sores. The City should clean up their own properties before they go telling private land owners what to do. What do these two photos have in common?
Both are public fishing sites. Who is polluting the environment here? The people fishing in the area. Who needs to be fined? The people fishing in the area. What are the authorities doing about the pollution? Look at the photos. Nothing. Recommendation? Ban fishing in these areas until the trash is removed. As long as there is no consequence to the criminal act of littering, fishermen will keep littering. Letisha Bush with FOX10 TV did a news report (see above story) about Dog River's Trash Problems Continuing. Well, yeah. As long as the City has no one removing the garbage from Dog River, the garbage will continue to be a problem. The question is, why doesn't ADEM advise the City to remove the garbage from Dog River? Why doesn't John Bell (Public Works Director) have any public workers out removing the garbage?
The garbage is not going to magically disappear - someone has to remove it. The ignoramuses at the City are making it clear that they are not going to remove the trash that their storm water system deposits in Dog River. Someone should sue the City of Mobile for violating the Clean Water Act. Dog River Clearwater Revival and the City of Mobile
are working together to solve the storm water litter problem in Dog River. Here is how well their plan is working. Mobile isn't in the state of Alabama, it is in the state of Denial. Click on an image below to bring up larger views in the photo gallery. The Eslava Creek Litter Trap captures a half dozen pieces of trash from this brief rain storm.
ALL the trash from two nearby ditches flows downstream toward Dog River unimpeded. The City of Mobile installed the Litter Trap ABOVE most of the trash generating ditches, so, Dog River residents should not expect to see much relief from storm water litter. The old shoreline garbage hasn't been removed yet. New garbage continues to flow downstream. The City of Mobile has no one removing the trash from the waterways. The $50,000,000 lawsuit over Clean Water Act violations hasn't changed a thing. The US Fish & Wildlife Service says the damming of the Coosa River is causing one of the largest extinction rates in North America during the 20th century yielding the loss of nearly 40 freshwater species. (1) Way to go Alabama! The world's water resources are limited and hope to satisfy humanity’s future demand for drinking water and a clean environment is dwindling fast thanks to corporate greed. (2) Way to go Coke! Neither the City, County nor the community or businesses of Mobile have a single person employed to remove the garbage from any of Mobile's trash impaired waterways. Way to go Mobile, Alabama! Plastic trash in the water is the least of Mobile's problems. The Alabama House just passed a bill to LOWER fees to dump hazardous waste in Emelle in half. Emelle is the largest toxic dump in the United States and representative A. J. McCampbell wants even more toxic waste dumped in Alabama. Way to go Alabama! Meantime, after a year of regular requests to ADEM, the City of Mobile, and ADPH to get the waterways and wetlands around Mobile's TOXIC landfill tested, nothing has done. Way to go Mobile! Corporations are not only greedy, they are smart. Corporations have poisoned our food and water. Corporations have positioned themselves to reap the profits. That is why there are more drug stores on corners than grocery stores. Enjoy your drugs and Chemo treatments. And coat the globe with our plastic. Cut down more trees and kill honey bees, And coat white turtle doves with oil. I'd like to teach the world to sing, In perfect harmony. I'm going to hold the world in my arms, And squeeze more money from all the dummies. Someone pointed out that most of my photos of waterway garbage are taken after heavy rains and that the City of Mobile can't remove all the trash by the next day. So I went back to Municipal Park today - three weeks after the last big rain. Guess what? Municipal Park Lakes are garbage dumps like all the rest of Mobile's waterways. No one has removed the trash yet.
New Mobile City Council member C. J. Small recently sent out mail saying the City's Urban Development Department will be going throughout his district enforcing codes by issuing citations. CJ Small should have the Urban Development Department issue a citations to the Mobile Parks Department for litter code violations. Click on a thumbnail below for a larger view with commentary.
The City of Mobile's Trash Collection system is seriously flawed just like its leadership.
