More sad news for people movement in Mobile. Engineers and City Officials have let development of a huge new shopping complex to completely ignore bicycle movement. The sidewalks are about 4 feet wide, not even wide enough for a bicycle and one person walking in the other direction to safely pass.
The development put in dangerous 6 inch curb and gutters. Dangerous to bicyclists and walkers who trip on the curbs and do face plants on the ground.
Nope, here was a huge development that could have put in nice wide sidewalks. The development was large enough it could have put in an exercise trail around the entire complex and it would have probably been over a mile long.
But no, it is the same ol shit in Mobile. Ignore the bicycle as a means of transportation. Do the least possible for pedestrians. Continue to build unsafe sidewalks not wide enough for two wheel chairs to pass each other.
Little do developers realize just how important it is to provide safe people movement corridors in Major shopping centers. What could be an attraction to the public is a hindrance. The consequence is loss of business. I'll not support that sorry ass shopping center.
They want $55 dollars from me just to shop at Costco? If that company gets just 10 percent of the people of Mobile to join, it gets a million dollars for free each year. No sir, I ain't paying to shop in Costco.
I will not shop in that shopping center because the developers and those stores calling it home neglected the bicycle as a form of transportation. Boycotting irresponsible developments is something anyone can do to punish irresponsible developers.
