Above Photo: I got to watch the City of Mobile's litter trap trash removal operation. Cleaning out the litter trap required 12 City workers (yikes) and about four vehicles. Look at the photo. Workers removed twigs and leaves with a couple pieces of storm water litter. All the litter floating nearby in the water was left in the water. All the litter on the creek bank was left there. Instead of removing all the litter in the basket area, City of Mobile workers put the litter basket on top of it and called it done. Like sweeping the trash under the carpet. These City workers take no pride in their work.
Meantime, the entire length of Eslava Creek is lined with public litter as well as upper Dog River. All that storm water litter is left to rot in the water and wetlands all year long and the litter trap does nothing to remove it. Remove the leaves and twigs with a dysfunctional litter trap and leave the garbage? It doesn't make any sense. That is leadership in Mobile. Idiotic and taxpayer wasteful.
Below Photo: This is what it looks like downstream of the Litter Trap. Still no relief for the unfortunate Dog River residents who live in the storm water trash tidal zone. Still no working litter trap and still no workers removing the litter from the trash impaired waterways. The City, County and State need to be sued for allowing continued violations of the federal Clean Water Act.
