I have been visiting Dollar General stores in the Mobile area for years and have never seen a single store that did not have litter on or around their property.
Rather than hire the labor necessary to regularly pick up the litter off their property the litter is ignored. Storm water trash pollution is the consequence of litter ignored on lots of properties like at these Dollar General stores.
"Well, why don't you complain to do something about it?" someone asked me. I have. I have written to Dollar General corporate headquarters a couple times and have filed 311 complaints to the City of Mobile about specific stores with forever trashy dumpster areas. Today the same areas are still littered.
Mobile supposedly has 14 litter enforcement officers along with a large police department all with the authority to issue litter code citations. Guess none of them have ever been to a Dollar General store...
Dollar General stores need to raise their prices so they can afford to hire someone to pick up litter from their properties every day.
But, as long as Dollar General can get away with having littered parking lots and littered dumpster areas and littered drainage ditches, why should they waste time and money picking up after the pigs who shop at their stores? Let the City of Mobile keep getting fined for storm water trash pollution because the authorities are afraid to get tough on the litter issue.
