Yesterday I kayaked 7 miles in the Dog River, Moore Creek and McCullough Bayou areas. Shoreline trash was still visible almost the entire time along this paddle despite last weekend’s Coastal Cleanup.
But, I did see an overall reduction of the easy to access trash especially on the west side of Moore Creek north of Lee's Lane and in the entire McCullough Bayou.
Kudos to the Dog River watershed Coastal Cleanup team. It is not often that I see any visual reduction of storm water trash after a Coastal Cleanup Event.
Every bit of trash removed means it will not be there for the next rain to move further downstream. It is too bad that the event is only 4 hours. An all weekend clean up event could remove four times as much trash producing even better results.
