Got to talking to three riders at the Xenia Trailhead who told me the trail south is densely covered with trees so there was not much scenery to see. Ignoring their advice, I headed south and immediately started riding down a hill through a tunnel of trees for seven miles. With only a few exceptions, the remainder of the trail was just as boring. Not many wildflowers to see. I should have taken Creekside Trail over to Dayton. Should have listened to the local riders.
Having ridden to Xenia a few days earlier and seeing all the trash, it was no surprise to see a little creek downstream of Xenia with pockets full of litter. Thankfully when I got to see the bigger Little Miami River no trash pockets were seen.
Someone was mowing the side of the trail with a tractor and leaving the limb debris all over the trail. Someone should have blown the debris off the trail after the limb mowing.
Highlights of this trip: Riding with a local rider to Corwin. We had a great chat which helped alleviate the boredom of the scenery. Another highlight was the Little Miami River visible in a couple of places. Seeing so many canoes and kayaks going downstream in these open areas caused me to ride over to one of the outfitters near the trail and inquire. Decided that I would drive back to an outfitter the next day rent a kayak for a quick 8 mile trip downstream before driving home. If visiting again I would not ride this part of trail again.
