Rails to Trails: Musketawa Trail in Michigan
Start: Marne Trailhead west of Grand Rapids.
Route: Ride west to Lake Muskegon and back.
Distance 63 miles round trip.
Weather: Partly Sunny. Temp: 50-70 degrees.
Low Elev 610, Hi Elev 780. Feet Ascended: 960
Trail Material: All Smooth Asphalt.
Rating: Thumbs Up.
I liked the trail because of the smooth asphalt and varying scenery. Marshes, woodlands, small towns, farmlands, and a big lake. Although the trail ends before reaching Lake Muskegon, the lake front is only a few miles away and can be safely reached using bike lanes and sidewalks.
Highlights of this trip: Lots of wildflowers, beautiful Lake Muskegon and surprising two frolicking fawns at a country road crossing.
