I absolutely loved this trail because of the diversity of scenery and smooth asphalt. Lakes, beaches, marinas, farms, hilly backgrounds, orchards, hops farms, busy cities and more. I was elated by plenty of stunning water views beginning with Boardman Lake, Grand Traverse Bay and Suttons Bay. The clear blue water in Suttons Bay was so inviting. Suttons Bay was clearly a popular destination for many local and visiting bicyclists. Bicycles lined the front of crowded food businesses.
Highlights of this trip: The diverse scenery, beautiful blue water, vibrant towns and beautiful country side. Did not want this ride to end. Rode most of the trail with a local rider who provided plenty of history and commentary. Public Rails to Trails usually involve of years of controversial struggles with property owners as was the case of the Leelanau Trail. The Leelanau Trail and TART trails are a big asset to the Traverse City and Sutton Bay area residents and a big draw for visitors.
