The Mobile City Council may have adopted new rules concerning delivery of circulars aka handbills aka trash, but the delivery of the Trash Register Products are still ending up in the City's storm water drainage system (MS4). It is trash as usual in Mobile.
I read somewhere that the Earth is currently undergoing the largest mass extinction in history since the cataclysmic event killed off the Dinosaurs eons ago. The cause? Humans. An online article says humans in their speeding vehicles kill a Million animals EACH DAY on roadways in America.[1] Based on what I see on roadsides, that sounds like a reasonable estimate. Boy, BP got in big trouble for killing marine life. Why don't automobile drivers get in trouble for killing marine life? Welcome to America, where driving faster than the legal speed limit allows has become norm. America's roadways have turned into the highways of death. Hell, traffic enforcement officers, equipped with the latest technology, cannot even get the motoring public to slow down to the speed limit. The result is not only are a ridiculous amount of animals slaughtered and maimed each day, so are an unacceptable number of humans killed and maimed each day. It just goes to show you how stupid many people are. If there is a Creator, she must be pretty disappointed with the human species. [1] Online Article, “U.S. Roads Kill a Million A Day Driving Animals To Their Graves” by Mark Matthew Braunstein. http://www.culturechange.org/issue8/roadkill.htm The Battleship Causeway is being littered by fishing pigs in both Mobile and Baldwin County. Fishing pigs are those who throw their drink containers, bags of trash, and fishing gear packages on the ground and depart without picking it up. Fishing pigs are those who sit their fat ass in a chair for hours and ignore all the litter on the ground mere feet away from them. Fishing pigs don't care about the environment. But, fishing pigs will not change their slovenly ways without an incentive. An incentive would be for authorities to threaten to close the area to fishing if it is not kept free of litter. Without consequence, fishing pigs will continue to leave their trash mere feet away from the majestic Mobile Bay. The State of Alabama gets their fishing license money but apparently the State doesn't bother to keep boat ramps and state fishing sites clean. If the State of Alabama makes no changes to fishing site upkeep, there will be no changes. Fishing sites will remain littered. Welcome to "Alabama, the Littered State" with thanks to State licensed fishing pigs. There is a sign at the entrance of Mobile's new Skateboard Park. It says, quote: "Any person skateboarding in this facility must wear appropriate protective equipment including a helmet, elbow pads, and knee pads." MUST and INCLUDING are the key words. I watched dozens of skateboarders in action this afternoon. The media was out in force with cameras to record the celebration of the grand opening of the City of Mobile's new Skateboard Park. Some City of Mobile Commissioners and City Park authorities were present. Even the Mayor of Mobile was present. The UGLY part was ALL ignored the fact that everyone using the Skateboard Park was in violation of the skateboard park rules. Not a single skateboard participant was wearing a helmet, elbow pads or knee pads. Therein lies the basic problem with Mobile. Mobile wastes money making laws and municipal codes and signs then neither officials or enforcement personnel have the balls to enforce the rules when there are people breaking the rules right in front of them. It pisses me off to see $300,000+ dollars of taxpayer money be spent catering to the desires of the Skateboard community by building them a facility which then all the participates recklessly disobey the rules of the park on opening day. The eventual injury and death of skateboard participants is on the hands of City of Mobile council members and Mayor Sandy Stimpson for sitting there and ignoring the people using the facility not using appropriate protective equipment. They are the ones who set the precedent of how participants are to use the park on opening day. Yeah boy, everyone just ignore the rules. Hope there are some horrendous injuries to the idiots who ignore the skateboard park rules. On the bright side, the Skateboard numbskulls who refuse to wear safety gear are all nicknamed, "Organ Donor." After they smack their head on the concrete pavement, their body still lives after they are brain dead so the organs can be harvested. This is a good thing for those waiting on organ transplants. There is much controversy over Mobile City Council's proposed dumpster enclosure laws to toughen up Mobile's municipal litter code. Some officials think shopping centers contribute very little litter to Mobile. Forcing all companies to enclose their dumpster is stupid. City of Mobile officials are wasting their time writing new litter code that will require trashy businesses with trashy dumpster areas to fence in their dumpster thinking it will solve the litter problem of the area. I see plenty of dumpsters, some enclosed by NEW fencing, polluting the surrounding area with trash because the fence does not go all the way to the ground. Businesses use the fence to hide all the loose trash around the dumpster. Instead of the City requiring ALL businesses to keep their dumpster area clean, they just want to require trashy dumpster areas to be fenced in. The problem with that is many dumpster fence gates remain open, the dumpster lids remain open, and trash still escapes from the dumpster area. Problem not solved. City litter enforcement officials should visit shopping centers once a month and open up fenced in dumpsters. If loose trash is found, issue a fine to the appropriate party, period. If loose trash is coming out of the bottom of the fenced areas like seen in these two photos, and trash is seen outside of the fenced area, there should be an additional large fine for obvious littering of the environment beyond the fence enclosure. Businesses and Dumpster companies that empty the dumpsters are both complicit for ignoring spilled garbage in dumpster areas. What Mobile needs are leaders with the balls to hold businesses and garbage disposal companies responsible for keeping business dumpster areas clean. It should be easy to pick up dumpster area trash and put it in the dumpster. Businesses got problems with dumpster divers opening dumpsters and tossing trash on the ground? There are video systems which can be installed that start recording when movement is detected. If businesses have problems with criminal dumpster divers, they should document the dumpster intrusions on video and prosecute. Mobile needs to get rid these City Council wimps. Fred Richardson Jr, Gina Gregory, Levon Manzie, Joel Daves, John Williams, CJ Small, and Bess Rich will NOT get my vote if they run for re-election because they are too scared to get tough on littering of the environment by known and obvious sources. It is time to start punishing businesses for polluting the environment with trash. Figured after filing a complaint with the Police about the Trash Register handbills in my yard that disappeared a day after the complaint that the media bully would stop littering my yard. Wrong. Trash Register threw more trash in my yard last week. The Mobile City council just passed new handbill laws so I called the City's complaint system. The City 311 complaint operator told me the City does not consider handbill ad packs as litter. Yup, she said there is nothing the City can do about the asshole company littering my yard each week. And this is after telling Trash Register for two years that I do NOT want their trash and after writing complaints to the City since 2013. Thanks to the City Council Trash Register seems to has a free business license to throw litter in my yard each week. Corporate bullying is alive and well in America and I see whose side the City is on. "The Litter Ladies were here!" sign seen next to litter. This scenario is actually pretty funny and pathetic at the same time. This sign is illegal according to Mobile Municipal Litter Code Section 25-47 which bans placement of unauthorized signs on City Right-of-Way. Only permitted special event direction signs are allowed. This is definitely not an event sign nor does it give directions. Strike One. Wind from passing trucks or a strong thunderstorm can easily blow these type signs off their flimsy wire base where they can end up in storm water ditches. Then they can get caught against inlet grates blocking rain water flow leading to excessive flooding. Strike Two. This sign leaves me wondering if the Litter Ladies were the ones who threw down paper plate and then advertised their littering deed with a sign. Looks like a case of rich high class neighborhood litter tagging to me. Strike Three. "Do Not Litter" (printed on the reverse side) signs only entice misfits to litter around the sign so the Litter Ladies are actually encouraging littering. Strike Four. The intention of the Litter Ladies may be good but their illegal execution contributes to the litter problem instead of helping it. But, some folks love to bask in the glory of fame as their toot their whistle about their good deeds through ignorant media outlets. http://www.wkrg.com/story/28956744/whats-working-litter-ladies Leave it to WKRG to post a story about Ladies who violate Mobile's Municipal Litter Code as something that is working to solve the litter problem in Mobile. That is funny. Shame on WKRG. Littering is not going to stop through education, by signs, or by do-gooders who pick it up. Litter however, can be significantly slowed down if there is a real deterrent. A deterrent would be a real high probability of getting caught and a tough sentence. I suggest the "Litter Ladies" buy some video cameras, capture misfits littering on video, and take the video to the police. The police will then have irrefutable evidence to make some littering asshole's bank account decrease by about $650. If there is a conviction, the ladies should get a reward of $200 taken from the $650. If the average person can buy a video camera and start earning $200 per conviction, now there is incentive to catch the littering criminals. That is deterrence at its best. Give the power to the people to stop littering. The judge can then add on 160 hours of community service to the criminal's sentence - all to be spent picking up litter with Keep Mobile Beautiful. Let the littering criminals clean up after the littering criminals. I recently saw a photo on Facebook's Poubelle Ville de Mobile (Trash Can of Mobile) showing a City of Mobile WAVE Bus Stop that asked, "Where is the garbage can that goes here?" Here is a photo of a WAVE Bus Stop seen on May 2 along Spring Hill Avenue. It has a garbage can and it still doesn't solve the litter problem. You can see an overflowing trash can, trash on the ground under the trash can, and trash on the ground under the bus stop bench. Yeah Boy, the City of Mobile sure is getting tough on littering starting with its own bus service. Why does the WAVE Bus Service use those ridiculously small garbage cans to begin with? According to City of Mobile Municipal Litter Code, Section 25-42, Litter Receptacles, (c)(3), "Litter receptacles on any premise shall be serviced with such frequency as necessary to prevent spillage from overflow..." Obviously, the City's WAVE bus stop litter receptacles are not being serviced frequently enough so the WAVE bus service is in violation of Mobile's own Municipal Litter Code. Will the City of Mobile get tough on littering and issue a citation to the WAVE Bus Service being in violation of the City's Litter Code? Just go by Bus Stop at 1200 Spring Hill Avenue (Mobile School Board Property) if you want to see a really trashy Bus Stop. Why the City or the WAVE cannot install some high resolution video cameras around the Bus Stops notorious for being littered to capture the criminals in action and prosecute them and ban them from using the Bus Service is a mystery. If there is not going to be any deterring consequence to the crime of littering, littering will only become more accepted as a societal norm. |
