Since monitoring the storm yesterday proved there was no storm water runoff issues, I waited until the cooler weather today to do the inspection. No change in Dog River and Eslava Creek. Until someone removes the waterway pollution, it is there to stay. For authorities to ignore it sure makes them look as stupid as they are.

Looks like the litter trap caught about one garbage bag of trash. I wonder how much it is going to cost to remove that little bit of litter considering that there may be a boat involved, several city workers, and some sort of crane to hoist the litter basket up in order to dump the trash in a trash truck. I wonder if the City is going to report the weight of the leaves, grasses, and twigs as "trash" so they can make it appear like they removed way more pounds of storm water litter than was really there. Candace Murphy with Fox10tv did a video news report on Friday asking, "Will the litter trap withstand TS Karen? Video News Report Link: Fox 10 TV Report Ms. Murphy said Dog River appears to be clean and the litter trap appears to be doing its job. Hahahahaha! Dog River is NOT clean and the Litter Trap has NEVER worked properly. I went out to the litter trap today at the height of Karen's waning wrath in Mobile. Not a single piece of storm water litter was seen floating down Eslava Creek. No chance for a litter trap failure today because rains were not heavy. A litter trap is only useful in heavy rain events because it is heavy rain events that flush large amounts of roadside litter down into the creeks. Yet, leaders and reporters are expecting a little heavy rain to break the litter trap? Why did the environmental group Dog River Clearwater Revival demand the City install a litter trap if they expect heavy rain to overwhelm it? Duh! Meantime, the trash downstream in Dog River that was there last year (including hazardous material) is still there today because no one sees any reason why it should be removed. Duh! What overwhelms the cheap ass DESMI litter trap is heavy rain because the litter trap is of the wrong design for the high velocity storm water ditch. What were the engineers thinking as they installed it where the velocity is greatest? Mobile had quite a few days of advanced warning about Hurricane Karen. Did City Public Works get out and remove all the roadside trash to keep the storm water litter from being washed into Dog River? Nope. Just look at the below photo. News stations were quick to advise home owners to get out and remove loose objects from their yards in preparation for "Hurricane Karen." It is no surprise that the City of Mobile ignored the loose roadside litter. It is no surprise that Property Owners ignored the loose roadside litter. The City of Mobile has no leadership. The City of Mobile has no enforcement of Litter Codes. Environmental groups are too busy throwing parties to care about trash impaired rivers. And Reporters like Candace put out misleading videos reporting that Dog River appears Clean and that the Litter Trap appears to be doing its job. Just wait until we have a heavy rain and all the trash like seen in the photo below is actually flushed into Dog River and floats right over the litter trap. Mobile is not in the state of Alabama. Mobile is in the state of Denial. There is about as much roadside litter in just 50 feet of roadside as caught in the litter trap. Where are the police who have the authority to enforce City municipal code which states property owners must keep their property free of litter. Police don't need to see someone throwing litter to write a ticket. Police need to write tickets to property owners who won't remove trash from their property. In recent months there has been much hoopla about Dauphin Island Parkway Peninsula groups doing things to clean up the South Side's trashy image. Thought I'd take a looksee and report on how the groups are doing. Without the City of Mobile getting involved and without local Businesses getting involved, the South Side will keep its trashy image. The South Side still looks like the dump it always has been. If DIPP wants the South Side to be clean, someone is going to have to go up and down Dauphin Island Parkway daily removing the public trash. Same Ol Shit. Sidewalks and Streets are not being maintained. Convenience Stores and Shopping Centers are not being held accountable for keeping their properties clean. The State of Alabama ignores the garbage along Dauphin Island Parkway. The state of affairs around dumpsters is pathetic and no one gives a shit. At first I thought the City of Mobile finally did some litter cleaning. But, knowing the City doesn't give a shit, I asked around. Unbelievably, it wasn't any of the DIP groups doing the clean up at McNally Park, it was Lee, a volunteer who lives over near Fairhope going along with a Walmart Bag picking up trash. The Eastern Shore is so clean there is no trash to pick up so he comes to Mobile. That is pathetically funny and sadly true. How well did the Alabama Coastal Cleanup work with reference to cleaning up trash impaired Moore Creek? The Storm Water Trash is still there. Volunteer clean ups fail to effectively clean up trash impaired creeks every time. Like Mobile's other trash impaired waterways, the City does not employ a single person to remove trash from the polluted creeks and rivers running through the City. The City's taxpayer money at work. The truck wastes gas idling with two people in it doing nothing and another city worker sat reading a paper in the dredge boat from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm. No wonder why the City has financial problems. No one is supervising the workers. Then again, maybe it is customary for City workers to take one and a half hour lunches. If these workers had nothing to do, there is plenty of trash to be removed from Moore Creek. Why, that is a piece of trash floating right in front of the Dredge Boat and almost all the waterway trash is within reach of a trash grabber used along the trashy shoreline. Here is a little lazy documentation of Mobile's Ugly Litter Problem. These are Screen Captures from Google Maps and Google Street Views.
