I'm riding this 5.8 mile long sidewalk today on the bicycle in Mobile County
as a comparison to yesterday's 27 mile long sidewalk ride in Baldwin County.
Starting at the Interstate and riding to Dog River, the sidewalk abruptly disappears several times.
Unlike the Eastern Shore Sidewalk along US 98
using the Dauphin Island Parkway Sidewalk
was not only frustrating, but dangerous.
If you don't make an area where you want to attract business pedestrian friendly,
businesses will never be attracted to locate there.
That is why there are no vacant businesses that I saw along the Eastern Shore Trail
compared to dozens of vacant commercial buildings along the 5-6 miles of Dauphin Island Parkway.
The poor condition of the DIP peninsula is a consequence
of the actions of local businesses and residents and leaders.
What they do and what they expect, they get.
Trash. Pollute. Don't maintain it.
That is why most of the good people have moved elsewhere.
