Someone emailed me asking if I read about the City of Mobile signing the consent decree with ADEM which they said says, "the City is to purchase and operate vessels in 2015 that will address the flow of litter in its waterways." That is in addition to replacing the malfunctioning litter trap. It was suggested that I should acknowledge that info on my blog and be more positive. After all, haven't I finally gotten what I wanted?
What I wanted was the City, County or State to start removing the MS4 related trash from Maple Street Canal in 2011. This is 2014 and the trash is still there. Ain't that some shit? Government has two speeds. Park and Ignore.
While concerned parties are either ignoring the issue, are fingering pointing or are saying they are doing all their permit says they are required to do, I continue to kayak Mobile area public waterways in total disbelief. There is still no program to deal with hazardous material, dead animals, and sickening amounts of Mobile's roadside litter in the waterways in Mobile County. Ain't that some shit? This is after years of complaints to Mobile, ADEM, the EPA and others.
I learned the other day that some people in high places think pretty low of me for referring to the City of Mobile as the Shity of Mobile in an old Blog post. Not politically correct huh?
Might I have developed an attitude because the Jones administration ignored my every complaint for years? Might my punny play on words be related to what I'm forced to kayak in? How many raw sewage releases have there been in the past couple years in Three Mile Creek and Dog River? Shit is another term for raw sewage. The smell of shit was in the air today in Eslava Creek.
You know, if a huge tree fell in the road, it will likely be removed within 24 hours. Hazardous material in a waterway, complained about - and it is ignored for years? Ain't that some copulated up fecal matter? Politically correct does not convey what I really meant to say very well.
I kayak in a shit hole lined with trash and hazardous materials. Thanks go to to the Shity of Mobile and Alabama the Ugly for today's stunning views. Hearing promises to do something while the pollution problem is ignored is not something I can yet be positive about. Especially when the solution is simple.
