Garrow's Bend, once one of my favorite western Mobile Shore kayaking destinations,
has become more and more of an illegal trash dump in the past decade.
None of these Good Neighbor property owners along Garrow's Bend remove the trash from their shoreline which is right next to Mobile Bay, Those property owners include the State of Alabama, Board of Water and Sewer, Alabama State Docks, Mobile Airport Authority, and the United States Coast Guard - agencies who should be taking care of the health of our waterways - not using their property as their own personal garbage dump.
Most of the trash originates from the City of Mobile storm water ditches in the area, including the interstate. These ditches have no trash filtering mechanisms in place. No one ever removes the storm water trash from these trash impaired waterways. Because Mobile continues to ignore trash once it reaches a tidally influenced State Waterway, the parade of trash continues to get denser and continues to work its way down toward Mobile Bay.
