It has been happening since 2012. The City of Mobile's new litter trap in Eslava Creek fails to do its job during a typical heavy rain. When it rains the water level in Eslava Creek rises. Strong current in the narrow ditch puts extreme pressure against the litter basket preventing it from rising on the center of stream mounted poles. The litter trap and its boom go under water as the creek water level rises. This allows the storm water litter to flow right over the submerged litter trap continuing on its journey down to Dog River.
Despite fines and lawsuits against the City of Mobile to stop the flow of trash into Dog River, the trashing of Dog River continues unabated. That doesn't bother me.
What bothers me is neither ADEM nor the City of Mobile can agree on what to do about it. Hint. Remove the trash from where it ends up in Dog River after each heavy rain.
Simple problem. Get someone out in a boat to where the trash ends up. Simple solution. Remove the trash from the water and send it to the land fill where it belongs.
What are ADEM and the City waiting for? Why isn't the media airing stories to embarrass ADEM and the City of Mobile as this waterway pollution spectacle continues year after year despite the federal Clean Water Act that prohibits the pollution of public waterways?
